the final project

Well, this has been quite a learning process that I have gone through to become one of the initiated and knowledgeable about blogs, RSS feeds, and podcasting. It has been a good journey with more ahead of me. To read more about what I learned, my experience, and some reasons for librarians to be interested in blogs, RSS, and podcasting, see my final project presentation web site.

Spamming blogs

Hi there,

Well, I learned why some bloggers will block comments from being made to their posts, you can be spammed. On my "Found" post, I received a random comment encouring the reader to be careful when purchasing a certain drug that is apparently a male enhancement drug. I was able to hide the comments on that post. I learned about the comment as all new postings to my blog are emailed to me.

Again, quite the learning experience.

Found!

Well, Bloglines found my new posts finally. It claims to check sites once an hour for updates. Anyway, I'm just happy they got found. Now I need to figure out why each post is showing up twice...

This project is a true learning experience!

Bloglines timing

Well, my last posting still hasn't been found by bloglines and when I select my feed for this blog, it doesn't show it at all. I'm wondering how often bloglines checks for new feeds or if it is something that isn't happening on the blogger side making the posts available for aggregation...

A test of bloglines

I'm creating this post to see if bloglines catches it in the aggregator. I'm still wondering how to create a feed on a web site and how to download a podcast to an mp3 player other than have it play on my computer.

First Entry - Why I'm doing this...

Well, everyone has to have a first entry for their new blog. Here's mine. I'm doing this as research for a class project. The class is 451- Networking at UIUC as part of the Graduate Studies program for Library and Information Science (GSLIS). I'm part of their LEEP distance education program for online students.

So, the plan is to do what quite a few people have already done before me. To record a message to an mp3 file that is stored on my newly created blog so it can be found by an aggregator and made available for podcasting. By walking through these steps, I hope to be able to explain each part or at least the process and available software to my classmates as my final project. Here's hoping this works!
